Obtain a Colorado Evidence of Insurance Form(s) From The Allenbrook Agency. This attests to the fact that you have at least the state minimum liability coverage’s. You will need to present it at various points along the way. Please keep it in your vehicle AT ALL TIMES. If you are stopped and do not have it, you may be fined. Obtain a Colorado Emission Control Certificate This will certify that your car is in compliance with Colorado’s clean air standards. If you are new to Colorado you will need to have a Vehicle Identification Number Verification at the Emission Control Center. We have attached the form at the end of this packet. (See Below For More Information) Obtain your Colorado License Plates and Registration Bring your Evidence of Insurance and the Colorado Emission Control Certificate along with the VIN form to the Department of Motor Vehicle to obtain your registration and license plates. (See Below For More Information) Obtain your Colorado Drivers License Bring all the documents from above and One form of Proof of Age and Proof of Name to the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain your new Colorado Drivers License. There is no need to take the Colorado Drivers Test, if you have a valid Out-of-State License. (See Below For More Information) Be Patient! It is our understanding that with the cut backs in our State’s Budget, many offices have closed, and the WAITING LINES at the remaining locations may be long. Plan that this process could take several days. Bring plenty of WATER and some READING MATERIAL. Colorado Emission Control 303-456-7090http://www.aircarecolorado.com/ 1982 and newer vehicles require enhanced emissions testing every 2 years at Air Care Colorado locations. 1981 and older vehicles require testing every year at either an Air Care Colorado location or an independent station. The waiver limit has increased from $450 to $715. Owners of failing vehicles 1968 or newer now must spend at least $715 on repairs before they may apply for a waiver. No more window stickers. State law eliminated emissions window stickers in 2001. When you get your test, you will not have a sticker put on your windshield. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Centers are closed Sundays and all state holidays (however, many of the independent testers of 1981 and older vehicles are open on some holidays). Test fee is $24.25 for 1982 and newer vehicles; $15 for 1981 and older vehicles. Payment may be made by cash or check. Credit cards are not accepted. If a VIN verification is necessary, the fee for this service is $9. Also, we no longer have ATMs at any of the Air Care Colorado centers. Out-of-State Vehicle
Important Note: Prior to registration or renewal, owners of tax class C vehicles (Passenger, Motor Home and Motorcycle) must provide proof of insurance, in accordance with House Bill 98-1213, effective July 1, 1999. This is the Evidence of Insurance from Step 1 Above. The proof must be the original document, an amended original document or a true copy certified by the issuing agency. First-time applicants must present two different documents. One document must be from the PROOF OF AGE list. The second document may be from either the PROOF OF AGE or PROOF OF NAME list.
