Personal Property Inventory |
|
|
| How do you know that the
Personal Property protection you currently have on your Homeowner's
or Renter's policy is enough in case
you had a total loss, such as a fire?
Would you be able to remember all the possessions you’ve accumulated
over the years if they were destroyed?
To
assist you in case you have a
theft or major loss, we have developed two types of Personal
Property Inventory solutions. Either of our solutions can help you
quickly compile a list of
your personal property and calculate the estimated replacement value
of your personal belongings to ensure you are adequately protected.
Our first solution is a Microsoft Excel
Spreadsheet that serves as our automated
personal property inventory to compile your inventory. With this
option, you must both have Microsoft Excel installed on your
computer and have a working knowledge of how to use it.
Our second solution is a
manual personal property inventory. If you do not have, or
know how to use Excel, you can print this solution from our internet site, complete the details, then
manually calculate the total value of your personal property.

Personal Property Inventory click here to
OPEN or
SAVE a copy of the spreadsheet to your hard
drive. Then PRINT a copy
of our manual inventory form below and use it to perform your inventory.
Then enter the results in the automated spreadsheet.
This will perform the extended cost calculations, and tabulate
the estimated total value of your personal property. |

Tips To Developing A Personal
Property Inventory
 | Describe each item,
noting where you bought it and its manufacturer, make and model. |
 | Keep your sales
receipts, purchase
contracts, and appraisals. |
 | Count the items of
clothing you own by category
-- pants, coats, shoes. |
 | Record serial numbers
of major appliances and
electronic equipment, usually found on the bottom or back. |
 | Don't be put
off!
If you are just setting up a household, starting an inventory list
can be relatively simple. If you’ve been living in the same
house for many years, however, the task of creating a list can be
daunting. |
 | Remember, it’s better to have an
incomplete inventory than
nothing at all. |
 | Start by doing a room
a day, or break it up by
other categories, such as jewelry, clothes, or your tools, etc. |
 | Valuable items like
jewelry, art work and
collectibles may have increased in value since you received them.
|
 | Take pictures
-
Besides an inventory,
you can take pictures of rooms and important individual items. On
the back of the photos, note what is shown and where you bought it
or the make. You can also use your digital camera and cut a
CD, or video tape each room, wall, or individual items. |
 | Store the list and
pictures off site in the event your copy is destroyed.
You can make a copy of your inventory and mail it to our agency.
You can email the
automated spreadsheet to us. In addition, we recommend that
you also store a copy in either a safe deposit box, or with
friends or family members. |
 | Both automated and
manual forms are separated by ROOMS of your home.
However, we have created separate
sections on both forms for: Electronic equipment;
Jewelry, Art, Guns, Furs, Collectibles, Clothes, and have created
a Miscellaneous section. |
 | Remember to call us after
you complete your inventory, so we can
verify that the personal property coverage on either your home or
renters insurance is adequate to protect you. |
Note: Before deciding on
our approach, we researched
various home inventory software products over the last several
years. We feel that our approach is the most efficient,
practical, and provides you the most privacy protection.
Many
products we reviewed, required that you store your inventory on the
internet, which we would greatly discourage. We also question
many of the so called "free" products available, because one never
knows if behind the scenes, your property inventory is being
captured secretly.
